  Breast Cancer Survivors Teams
The Miami Overseas Chinese Association, a 501c3 non-profit organization, introduced Breast Cancer Survivors in South Florida to the benefits of Dragon Boat Racing in the fall 2006 in association with the Joan G. Gaines Breast Cancer Research Fund at the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Research Center. From these collaborative efforts Team SOS (Save Our Sisters) was born. SOS is the first ever South Florida BCS Dragon Boat Racing team. Dragon Boating has much to offer to breast cancer survivors:
Experience is definitely not needed. Only the desire to learn and have fun. Through Dragon Boat Racing survivors have the opportunity to meet other survivors, as well as many other people who also provide support. Dragon Boat Racing is an international sport which enables travel to places such as Germany, Canada, England, France, etc. Most Breast Cancer Survivor Teams imagine themselves racing in a ritual battle against the dragon of cancer when competing. They envision an imaginary lane with the dragon racing against them side by side. Team SOS practices every Saturday at the Miami Rowing Club at 10:30am. If you are a breast cancer survivor or know of one and would like to participate in this great fitness program, please contact us at miamidragon@bellsouth.net.
